KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has instructed all 77 District Administration Offices to coordinate with local governments and other agencies to ensure the safe management of passengers stranded across the country due to heavy rainfall and road disruptions.
Continuous rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms has left many highways blocked and passengers stranded in several parts of the country.
The NDRRMA has directed local administrations to work closely with transport operators, government and non-government organizations, and the private sector to provide shelter, food, medical care, and other essential facilities to affected passengers.
The ministry has also asked authorities to monitor weather and road conditions and assist vehicles in reaching their destinations when possible.
Special arrangements have been ordered for ambulances and pregnant women stranded en route, while those living in flood- and landslide-prone areas are to be relocated to nearby schools or open spaces.
The ministry has instructed all Chief District Officers and security agencies in high-risk areas to remain on duty around the clock and submit regular progress reports on rescue and management efforts.
