KATHMANDU: The sixth meeting of the CPN-UML parliamentary party held on Tuesday voiced expressed concerns over the government’s working style, the state of the rule of law, rising prices, human rights issues, and problems seen in the agriculture sector.
According to UML Chief Whip Ain Mahar, the party endorsed a seven-point proposal. The proposal accuses the government of arresting the party’s Vice Chairperson, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, in a prejudiced and humiliating manner. Calling the action contrary to the rule of law, the party has demanded Paudel’s unconditional release.
The meeting also pledged to strengthen the parliamentary front in a more effective and constructive manner, in coordination with the party. Accusing the government of acting against the rule of law, the UML said it would continue a firm struggle against the government’s conduct and working style within Parliament.
It also urged the government to take diplomatic initiatives to find a long-term solution to problems seen in tea exports. Likewise, the party further called on the government to control inflation, protect human rights and stop repressive state actions.
The meeting also drew the attention of the government toward the need for preparedness and vigilance in mitigating the impacts of natural disasters. It also urged the government to ensure easy availability of chemical fertilizers for farmers.
The meeting also reaffirmed that any encroachment on Nepal’s borders will not be acceptable under any circumstances and expressed commitment to stand firmly for national sovereignty and democratic values.
UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli attended the parliamentary party meeting as a chief guest, according to Mahar.
