KATHMANDU: The Vice Chancellor, Rector, and Registrar of Tribhuvan University have resigned from their posts.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Deepak Aryal, Rector Prof Dr Khadga KC, and Registrar Prof Dr Kedar Prasad Rijal sent their resignation letters separately to the university’s Chancellor and Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Thursday.
“We have stepped down. Our resignation letters have already been sent to the Office of the Prime Minister,” Prof KC told Himal Press over the phone.
KC added that they have also informed the Prime Minister’s Personal Secretary, Pradeep Pariyar, via WhatsApp.
They said the resignations were intended to pave the way for the new government to function smoothly.
Vice Chancellor Aryal had been appointed during the tenure of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, while Rector KC and Registrar Rijal were appointed during the tenure of former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The tenure of TU officials is four years.
The resignations have come amid the government’s preparation to introduce an ordinance aimed at removing politically appointed university officials.
The ordinance is currently under review by President Ram Chandra Paudel.
