KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has taken the oath as the Senior Chairperson of the CPN-UML.
UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli administered the oath of office and secrecy to Bhandari.
With this, Bhandari has formally returned to active politics after serving two terms as the country’s president. Bhandari was UML’s vice chairperson when she was elected the head of the state on October 28, 2015.
UML’s Secretariat on September 25 decided to appoint Bhandari to the position. Earlier, Oli had blocked her effort to return to active politics by scrapping the decision to reinstate her party membership, stating that it was inappropriate for a former head of state to hold a political role.
