KATHMANDU: The government has said that the federal parliament session was postponed to ensure adequate legislative business.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel said the previously scheduled parliamentary session had to be deferred to complete preparations for the agenda, procedures, and all necessary formalities for house deliberations.
“We postponed the parliamentary session to provide sufficient business to parliament,” he said.
He also clarified that the government is not in favour of introducing ordinances.
Pokharel further said that squatters would be relocated to safer areas as part of preparations to minimize the risks posed by natural disasters. “Informal settlements in the Kathmandu Valley face flood risks every year. With the monsoon season approaching, the government has decided to relocate people from vulnerable areas to ensure their safety,” he added.
Pokharel added that the relocation would be carried out in coordination with Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
