KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Vice Chairperson Bishnu Prasad Paudel and Deputy General Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai have objected to remarks made by the party’s parliamentary leader, Ram Bahadur Thapa, in the House of Representatives on Thursday.
Writing a post on his social media page on Thursday evening, Paudel said that the views put forward by Thapa, in his capacity as the UML’s parliamentary party leader, are against the party’s established policies and principles.
“The views expressed by Thapa in the House of Representatives, in his capacity as UML’s parliamentary party leader, are contrary to the party’s established policies and principles,” Paudel wrote. “I expect that this matter will be discussed seriously at the party’s Central Secretariat meeting scheduled for tomorrow, and that an appropriate decision will be taken.”
Thapa had said that the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) secured an unprecedented victory in the March 5 elections due to the roles played by the Nepali Army, the bureaucracy, the Gauri Bahadur Karki commission, the Barbara Foundation, NGOs, and other institutions and actors.
UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has also objected to Thapa’s statement.
In a social media post on Thursday evening, Bhattarai, without naming Thapa, said UML upholds the principle of achieving superiority through competition and advancing the progressive transformation of Nepali society through peaceful and constitutional means. He said the party holds no hostility toward the Nepali Army, other security agencies, the judiciary, or constitutional bodies. “We maintain respect and trust in these institutions,” he added.
