KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Australia in Kathmandu on Saturday hosted a special reception to celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Australia.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki, who is also overseeing the foreign affairs portfolio, attended the event as the chief guest.
In her address, Prime Minister Karki said Nepal truly values Australia’s friendship, its continued development assistance, and its principled support to its democratic and inclusive transformation. “Over more than six decades, our partnership has grown to cover key areas like education, trade, development, and culture,” she added.
At the event, Prime Minister Karki also launched “65 Years Together”, a commemorative book published by the Association of Nepalese Alumni from Australia.
The publication highlights the timeline, dimensions and depth of people-to-people linkages between the two countries.
Nepal and Australia established diplomatic relations in 1960. In recent years, the Nepali diaspora community in Australia has grown significantly, strengthening cultural bonds and contributing to Australia’s multicultural society while maintaining close ties to Nepal.
Issuing a statement, the embassy said Australia–Nepal relations continue to flourish with ever-increasing people-to-people connections, respect for sovereignty, and promotion of democratic values.
