KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has intensified activities along the Nepal–India border to curb illegal infiltration.
According to APF Nepal, the stepped-up measures include round-the-clock border patrols and strict verification of individuals crossing the border.
“The APF has ramped up engagements, consultations and coordination with local government officials in border areas to strengthen border security and prevent unauthorized cross-border movement,” said APF Nepal Joint Spokesperson DSP Shailendra Thapa. “Additionally, document checks and interrogations are being conducted as necessary.”
The heightened vigilance follows a recent terror attack in Pahalgam of Jammu & Kashmir state of India, which claimed 26 lives. India has ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave the country in response to the attack.
According to DSP Thapa, Inspector General Raju Aryal recently instructed newly appointed Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) in charge of border battalions to increase surveillance and implement strategic plans to regulate cross-border activities. DSP Thapa stated that battalion headquarters in border districts have since prioritized intelligence gathering and operational efforts.
The APF has also deployed dog squads at key checkpoints, including Kakarbhitta (Jhapa), Birgunj (Parsa) and Belahiya (Rupandehi), to strengthen inspection efforts.
Additionally, long-range patrols led by APF inspectors are being carried out round the clock in border areas across Koshi, Madhesh, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Preventing the illegal movement of third-country nationals has become a central agenda in coordination meetings between Nepali and Indian border security forces at all levels—from battalion headquarters to Border Outposts (BOPs), according to DSP Thapa.
