KATHMANDU: An Indian national has been detained at the Nepal-India border area in Kakarbhitta in Mechinagar with 570 grams of gold and foreign currency.
A joint team of the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal and the customs office arrested the individual on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as approximately Param Pathak (39), was travelling from India to Nepal in an electric tempo when he was detained with the gold and cash, according to a statement issued by the APF Nepal.
“Acting on a tip-off, the joint team from the APF Border Security Battalion, Kakarbhitta, and the Mechi Customs Office recovered 570 grams of gold, $20,000, 85,410 Indian rupees, one Indian Aadhaar card, two mobile phone sets, one hard disk, one checkbook, and seven SIM cards from his possession,” the APF Nepal said in a statement.
The detained individual, along with the seized gold and other items, has been handed over to the Mechi Customs Office in Kakarbhitta, Jhapa, for further investigation.
