KATHMANDU: National Assembly member Narayan Dutt Mishra has drawn the government’s attention to the need for preparedness regarding the increasing risk of fire incidents in various parts of the country.
Speaking at the meeting of the National Assembly on Sunday, he said fire incidents could increase this year due to less rainfall in winter. “The government must immediately form fire control committees at the local level, empower local authorities and provide them with proper training,” he said. “Additionally, arrangements for firefighting equipment should be made to ensure timely response to fire incidents.”
Mishra also said the police and the army should also be prepared to actively support community forest committees in fire control efforts.
Another National Assembly member Bhuvan Bahadur Sunar demanded that farmers who have been cultivating land for generations be provided with land ownership certificates.
Another member Madan Kumari Sah called on the government to inform the parliament about the status of students who returned to Nepal following the death of a Nepali student at KIIT University in Odisha, India. “I want to thank the government, Nepali media and the Indian public for standing against the atrocities committed by the university administration on Nepali students,” she said. “However, I want to know what information the government has about the students who returned to Nepal after the incident and what plans the government has for their future.”
