KATHMANDU: Maeda Toru, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, hosted a National Day Reception at his official residence in Tahachal on Friday to mark the 65th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
According to a press statement issued by the Embassy of Japan, the event was attended by around 350 distinguished guests, including Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh, Minister for Youth and Sports Teju Lal Chaudhary, National Assembly Vice Chairperson Bimala Ghimire and Deputy Speaker Indira Rana.
Former prime ministers, ministers, parliamentarians, ambassadors, heads of international organizations, government officials and friends of Japan were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Maeda said the long-standing bilateral relations between Japan and Nepal trace back to the 19th century. He also recalled the Japanese Emperor’s visit to Nepal in 1987 and Japan’s development cooperation with Nepal spanning over 50 years. The ambassador also expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2026, calling it a significant opportunity to further strengthen ties.
