KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has said that the government introduced the ordinances with the consensus of the two largest parties in the ruling coalition.
Speaking to media persons after a meeting between NC ministers in the federal government and the Parliamentary Working Committee on Wednesday, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Prasad Ghimire said the ordinances were introduced as the government felt certain economic reforms and good governance issues could be prolonged if not addressed immediately. “We discussed the ordinances in the meeting. The ordinance was introduced after sufficient consultation between leaders of the two political parties—NC and CPN-UML,” Ghimire said.
According to Ghimire, the party has formed a Parliamentary Party Discipline Committee under Dilendra Prasad Badu. Likewise, it decided to name Sanjay Gautam, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, and Chanda Chaudary as the party’s coordinators for the Public Accounts Committee and the Agriculture, Cooperatives, and Natural Resources Committee.
The meeting also decided to facilitate the immediate passage of bills in parliamentary committees and urged the government to introduce new bills, according to Ghimire.
Chief Whip Ghimire further said the meeting decided to work actively to make the government effective and successful and to hold regular discussions on important issues.
The party also directed its ministers to expedite development projects and other programs within their respective ministries’ jurisdictions.
Ghimire added that the meeting decided to hold monthly discussions on suggestions sent from the party’s provincial, district, and local committees.
