Popular singer Robin Tamang passes away

KATHMANDU: Robin Tamang, the popular singer and the frontman of the band ‘Robin and the New Revolution’, passed away in Kathmandu on Tuesday. He was 60.

Police, who arrived at his residence after he didn’t respond to is wife’s calls, discovered his body inside a locked room in his house in Budhanilkantha, according to news portal Nepal Press. His body has been sent to TU Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Family members confirmed his death through his official Facebook page.

Born into a British Army family in Singapore, Tamang developed a liking for old rock music by listening to Jimi Hendrix and Deep Purple. During his college days in the 1980s, he formed the Tamang band and performed gigs.

He came to Nepal in the late 1990s and settled in Pokhara. It was during this time that he formed the band “Robin N’ Looza.” The band released three albums: “Nepal,” “Adhunik ko Angama,” and “Bhulma Bhulyo.” They achieved success with hits like “Nepal,” “Mero Maya,” and covers of songs such as “Ma Mauntama” by Om Bikram Bista, “Chiso Chiso Hawama” by Danny Denzongpa, and “Jati Maya Layepani” by Arun Thapa, among others.

After the band disbanded in 2005, Robin formed “Robin N The Revolution” and produced hits like “Ketaketi” and “Ekta,” among many others.

He also acted in films such as “Chhadke” and “Mukhauta,” among others.
