SC denies interim order in a case challenging formation of Koshi govt

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order in a writ petition challenging the formation of the Koshi Province Government under the leadership of Hikmat Kumar Karki of CPN-UML.

Hearing a writ petition lodged by former Chief Minister Kedar Karki on Friday, a single bench of Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal ordered the defendants to furnish a written response within 10 days on why the interim order should not be issued as demanded by the petitioner.

The bench has scheduled the final hearing of the case on May 22.

Former Chief Minister Karki moved the apex court after the Province Chief Parshuram Khapung appointed UML’s Karki as the Chief Minister as per Article 168 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015. He has sought the apex court order for his reinstatement as the Chief Minister of Koshi Province Government.
