KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 11 individuals for allegedly beating a school teacher to death during a fair in Bhojpur on August 28.
According to the District Police Office, Bhojpur, 39-year-old Bhanubhakta Rai, a resident of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality-7 of Khotang, was beaten to death at around 11:45 p.m. on August 28 at a fair in Mabu in Salpa Silichho Rural Municipality-5 of Bhojpur.
Rai was working as a relief-quota teacher at Surya Secondary School in his locality. Police said he was attacked over an old dispute while attending the fair.
Police received verbal information about the incident and immediately deployed a team to the scene. Following an investigation, police arrested 11 suspects on August 29.
The Bhojpur District Court on August 30 granted police five days to keep the suspects in custody for further investigation, according to Bhojpur police.
The suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Sagar Koi Rai, 21-year-old Pratik Rai, 25-year-old Nishan Rai, 23-year-old Sushil Rai; 32-year-old Amar Rai, also known as Sher Bahadur; 30-year-old Umesh Dumi Rai; 35-year-old Taradevi Rai; 48-year-old Sumita Rai; 43-year-old Tej Kumari Rai; 19-year-old Devika Rai and 20-year-old Chandrakala Rai.
All the suspects are residents of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality-7 of Khotang.
