ITAHARI: Koshi Province Assembly has adopted a resolution motion tabled by CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) demanding that Chief Minister Kedar Karki undergo a floor test.

Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista announced that the resolution has been adopted through a voice vote. Speaker Bista announced that 52 province assembly members were in favor of the resolution motion, three were against the motion and others were neutral.

Province assembly members of UML, Maoist Center and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) voted in favor of the motion. Likewise, assembly members of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) remained neutral, while Nepali Congress assembly members didn’t participate in the voting process.

“Let the Province Assembly direct the Chief Minister to take a vote of confidence as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal within a month from April 8,” the resolution motion reads.

Earlier, Chief Minister requested opposition parties not to choose the path of resolution motion and said he was ready to form an all-party government in the province. “Let’s form an all-party government. Let’s not push the province toward uncertainty,” he added.

Karki has been maintaining that since he was appointed as per the last option prescribed in the constitution, the mid-term poll is the only alternative to his government.
