KATHMANDU: A commission formed to investigate the property of political leaders and those holding public office since 2006 formally began its work on Wednesday.
The five-member commission has set up its office at Keharmahal, Kathmandu.
Chairman of the commission, former Supreme Court Justice Rajendra Prasad Bhandari, took the oath of office and secrecy from Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla amid a ceremony on Wednesday. Bhandari then administered the oath to other members of the commission—Former Chief Appeal Court Judge Purushottam Parajuli, former High Court Judge Chandi Raj Dhakal, former DIG of Nepal Police Ganesh KC, and Chartered Accountant Prakash Lamsal.
The terms of reference of the commission formed by the cabinet on April 15, as per the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 2026, have already been approved.
The commission has been given a year to complete its study and submit a report to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. The government will have to implement its report within 45 days.
