Nepal qualifies for T20 World Cup

KATHMANDU: Nepal have secured a place in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with two games to spare.

Nepal and Oman confirmed their qualification after the results of both Super Six matches of the ICC  Men’s T20 World Cup Asia & EAP Qualifier played on Wednesday favored these two sides, who play later on Wednesday.

Qatar defeated Japan by three wickets in the first match of the day, while the UAE defeated Samoa by 77 runs in the second match.

This will be Nepal’s second straight participation in the Men’s T20 World Cup. It qualified for the 2024 edition together with Oman from the Asia region. Nepal first qualified for the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2014.

After two matches, Nepal and Oman each have six points, including two points carried over from the group stage, while the UAE has four points from three matches, including two points carried over from the group stage. Japan and Qatar have two points each, while Samoa is pointless. Qatar has one game remaining in the Super Six stage, while Japan and Samoa each have two games remaining.

In the final round of Super Six fixtures, the UAE will face Japan, Nepal will play against Samoa, and Oman will take on Qatar. These matches will determine the third team to qualify for the World Cup.

Nepal will play its third Super Six match against Oman on Wednesday. It will then meet Samoa in the final Super Six stage match on Friday.
