KATHMANDU: The Nepali Army (NA) has completed construction of a 10.81-kilometer road section of the Khandbari–Kimathanka stretch of the Koshi Corridor in Sankhuwasabha district.

According to the NA, the newly completed section connects Chhyamtang to Ghonghappa in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha.

The NA formally handed over the road section to the North-South (Koshi) Road Project Office on May 11.

The Khandbari–Kimathanka road is a key 162-kilometre segment of the North-South Koshi Highway (390 km). It is one of the national pride projects and links Kimathanka on the Nepal-China border with Rani on the Nepal-India border. Upon completion, it is expected to serve as a strategic trade and transport route connecting Tibet Autonomous Rgion of China, Nepal and India.

Likewise, the Koshi Corridor Road is also expected to strengthen regional connectivity by linking eastern hill districts such as Sankhuwasabha, Tehrathum and Dhankuta with the industrial hub of Biratnagar in the southern plains.
