KATHMANDU: Four ruling coalition partners in Madhesh Province have decided to give continuity to the government led by Krishna Prasad Yadav of the Nepali Congress (NC). A meeting of the four parties held in Janakpurdham on Sunday also decided that Chief Minister Yadav would take a vote of confidence at the earliest.
The minutes of the meeting were signed by Chief Minister Yadav, who is the parliamentary party leader of the NC, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal parliamentary party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) parliamentary party leader Yuvaraj Bhattarai, and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) Nepal parliamentary leader Jayanul Rain and representative Rani Sharma Tiwari.
The provincial government fell into uncertainty after one of its coalition partners, the Janamat Party, withdrew its support last week. There were also rumours that Janamat was working to form a new coalition under the leadership of JSP Nepal. Sunday’s meeting, however, put all those rumours to rest.
Yadav was elected chief minister on December 5 last year with the support of 77 members. Janamat’s withdrawal of support has not pushed the provincial government into a minority, as Chief Minister Yadav still has the required numbers.
Janamat Nepal has 12 members in the provincial assembly, including two in Yadav’s government.
