Koshi Investment Summit : MoUs worth Rs 152.16 billion signed

ITAHARI: The Investment Summit organized by the Koshi Province Government has concluded with Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed for projects worth Rs 152.16 billion.

At the closing ceremony in Biratnagar, Koshi Province Investment Authority (KPIA) CEO Dr Saroj Koirala signed MoUs with representatives of investors in the presence of Dr Hikmat Kumar Karki on Friday.

According to KPIA, MoUs were finalized for eight agriculture projects worth Rs 3 billion, three energy projects worth Rs 8.62 billion, 12 industrial projects worth Rs 66.87 billion, 9 infrastructure projects worth Rs 38.41 billion, two IT projects worth Rs 470 million, 10 tourism projects worth Rs 34.19 billion, and a waste management project worth Rs 600 million.

Nineteen of these projects are from the private sector, while 27 are public-private ventures.

The provincial government had showcased 71 projects with an estimated total cost of Rs 173.49 billion at the summit.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Karki described the summit as historic. Likewise, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Rewati Raman Bhandari highlighted the legal and policy measures taken by the provincial government to attract investment.

Former Chief Minister Kedar Karki suggested that the provincial government create an environment conducive to investment by amending necessary laws.

Chinese investor Liang Zhong, Non-Resident Nepali investor Rejina Rai Pradhan and investor Galabh Dhungana, among others, expressed optimism about the strong investment potential in Koshi Province.
