Aircraft had no thrust motion in its engines: Probe panel

KATHMANDU: A committee investigating the Yeti Airlines crash near Pokhara Airport last month said that the aircraft had no thrust motion in its engine in the final moments of it descent.

The ATR 72-500 aircraft crashed in the Seti River gorge near Pokhara Airport on January 15.

Issuing a statement, the committee said the analysis of the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder showed the propellors of both engines went into ‘feather in the base leg of descending’.

Going into feather means the engine did not produce any power. What caused the aircraft to go into feather mode still remains uncertain.

An amateur video posted on social media right after the accident showed the plane flying low before sharply rolling left and falling down before disappearing out of the frame.

The ill-fated aircraft was carrying 72 passengers, including four crew members. Rescue workers have recovered 71 charred bodies from the crashed side with the remaining passenger presumed dead.
