KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its gaining streak for a third straight session, closing 8.81 points higher at 2,651.21 on Thursday.

The index gained a nominal 0.79 points on Tuesday and 0.55 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark index fluctuated throughout the trading session before gaining momentum toward the close. Although the index hit an intraday high of 2,656.29 points by mid-session, it pared most of the gains before settling 0.33% higher.

A total of 171 scrips advanced during the session, while 86 declined and 19 remained unchanged. Total turnover slightly improved to Rs 3.72 billion with 10.22 million units traded through 45,822 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Sarvottam Cement Limited hit the positive circuit limit. Mount Everest Power Development Ltd and Super Khudi Hydropower Ltd were next with gains of 14.99% and 13.02%, respectively. On the other hand, 10.25% Prabhu Bank Debenture 2086 posted the biggest loss of 10.45%. Global IME Debenture 2086/87 and 10.30% Standard Chartered Bank Debenture followed with losses of 5.58% and 5.56%, respectively.

Ghalemdi Hydropower Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions worth Rs 299.81 million. NRN Infrastructure & Development and Solu Hydropower Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 166.94 million and Rs 157.09 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, the Investment and Mutual Fund sub-indices posted nominal losses, and the Trading sub-index remained unchanged. The remaining 10 sub-indices posted gains. The biggest gain came from the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which went up 0.57%. Next were the Hydropower and Development Bank sub-indices with gains of 0.56% and 0.53%, respectively.
