KATHMANDU: Nepse index returned to winning ways on Thursday, a day after the market snapped a three-day gaining streak, closing 11.77 points higher at 2,629.81.
Although the benchmark index had declined after initial gains, it recovered and remained in the green for the remainder of the session.
Despite the gain, total turnover fell to Rs 5.44 billion, with 17.27 million units traded through 51,716 transactions. Buyers dominated the market on Thursday as 176 stocks advanced, while 95 declined and seven remained unchanged.
Among individual stocks, Nepal Lube Oil posted the biggest gain of 12.47%. Sonapur Minerals & Oil Ltd and Kumari Subha Yojana were next with gains of 7.65% and 7.56%. On the other hand, Mid Solu Hydropower Ltd logged the largest loss of 11.58%. Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Citizens Super 30 Mutual Fund were next with losses of 10.19% and 3.47%, respectively.
Shivam Cement posted the highest turnover of the session with total transactions of Rs 358.1 million. Himalayan Distillery Ltd and Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 351.66 million and Rs 243.53 million, respectively.
Except for the Non-life Insurance sub-index, which posted a nominal loss, the sub-indices of all trading groups inched higher on Thursday. The Manufacturing & Process sub-index posted the biggest gain of 1.83%. The Trading and the Life Insurance sub-indices also closed 0.97% and 0.7% higher, respectively.
