KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Janamath Party Chairman Chandra Kanta Raut held talks in Kathmandu on Thursday.
It is said that the duo discussed the formation of the government at the centre and province.
NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi took Raut to Deuba’s official residence in Baluwatar.
“I just returned after taking Janamat Party Chairman Raut for a meeting with Prime Minister Deuba. The talks were positive,” Nidhi said, adding: “Janamat Party has agreed to cooperate with the NC and the ruling coalition both at the central and province level and join the government.”
Raut emerged in the Nepali political scene following his arrest on a sedition charge in September, 2013. He formed Janamat Party after signing an agreement with then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in March, 2019.
His party is set to gain national party status in the federal parliament in only its first appearance in the election. Raut won the election for the House of Representatives in Saptari-2 constituency.
