KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a four-day losing streak on Wednesday, edging up by a nominal 2.57 points to close at 2,736.17.
The Nepse index had shed 46.66 points over the past four sessions.
The benchmark index traded in positive territory for most of the session. However, it pared some gains toward the close but still ended the session in the green.
Despite the uptick in the index, market breadth remained slightly negative as unit prices of 134 stocks declined, while 127 gained and 10 remained unchanged. Total turnover fell to Rs 4.29 billion with 9.28 million units traded through 49,248 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Kalinchok Hydropower Ltd continued its bull run, recording the biggest gain of 14.99%. Newly listed Sopan Pharmaceuticals and Apollo Hydropower Ltd were next with gains of 14.98% each. On the other hand, 10.25% PBL Prabhu Bank Deventure 2086 recorded the steepest decline of 8.71%.
In terms of turnover, Ankhukhola Jalvidyut Company Ltd recorded the highest transaction of Rs 28.04 million. Next were Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd and City Hotel Ltd with turnovers of Rs 202.75 million and Rs 164.14 million, respectively.
Likewise, six trading groups posted gains on Wednesday, while six ended the session in the red and one remained unchanged. The biggest gain came from the Hydropower sub-index which ended the session 0.65% higher. On the other hand, the Trading sub-index posted the biggest loss of 0.43%.
