KATHMANDU: A luxury hotel being developed by former Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) President Shesh Ghale in Kathmandu will operate under The Luxury Collection—one of the most prestigious brands in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.
This also marks the brand’s entry into Nepal.
The agreement was signed on Sunday in the presence of Marriott International Chairman David Marriott. After the singing ceremony, Chairman Marriott also toured the 17-storey hotel building at Keshar Mahal.
The hotel was originally planned to open as Kathmandu Sheraton Hotel. The foundation stone for the project was laid in October 2014. However, the long construction delay led to the termination of the branding agreement with Sheraton.
After years of delay, Ghale has now partnered with Marriott to operate the property under The Luxury Collection. The hotel is expected to begin operations in October 2026.
Spread over 13 ropanis of land in the premium Kesharmahal area near Thamel, the project was estimated to cost Rs 8 billion when construction work began. The promoters have not disclosed the final investment amount.
The hotel will feature 225 rooms as well as a banquet hall capable of seating 2,000 guests, two conference halls, three meeting rooms, four restaurants, a fitness club, spa and an infinity swimming pool.
The Luxury Collection is among Marriott Bonvoy’s top-tier luxury brands and manages more than 130 hotels and resorts across over 40 countries.
The signing further expands Marriott’s growing footprint in Nepal. The company entered the Nepali market with the opening of Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu in 2017. Kathmandu Marriott Hotel and Aloft Kathmandu began operations in 2019. The Soaltee Kathmandu joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection in 2025, before Moxy Kathmandu opened last year. It marked Authograph Collection’s debut in South Asia.
The Chaudhary Group is developing Nepal’s first Ritz-Carlton, another premier Marriott brand, hotel in Kathmandu. Chauhary Group is also bringing another Marriott brand, Westin, to Kathmandu.
Marriott is also expanding its footprint beyond Kathmandu, with Lumbini Marriott Resort & Spa, which is under construction in Rupandehi.
