KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its gains for a second consecutive session on Wednesday, closing 14 points higher at 2,590.29.

The index posted sharp gains during early trading and briefly moved above the psychological support level of 2,600 points. Although it pared some gains as the session progressed, it remained in the positive territory throughout the session.

Unit prices of 195 stocks advanced on Wednesday, while 60 declined and 19 remained unchanged. Despite the Nepse index’s gain, total turnover fell by nearly half to Rs 4.17 billion, with 8.47 million units changing hands through 38,836 transactions.

Among individual stocks, NMB Debenture 10.75% 2089/90 posted the biggest gain of 9.2%, while Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha logged the largest loss of 7.32%. Three debenture units topped the total turnover chart, reflecting the growing investor preference toward corporate debentures as the fiscal year 2025/26 draws to close. 10% Himalayan Bank Debenture 2083 topped the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 441.04 billion. Next were 7% RBBL Debenture 2088 and 10.25% NIC Asia Debenture 2083/84 with total turnovers of Rs 332.04 million and Rs 218.96 million, respectively.

Corporate debentures worth Rs 1.32 billion changed hands during the session.

Eleven out of 13 trading sub-indices posted gains on Wednesday. The Development Bank sub-index posted the biggest gain of 1.37%. On the other hand, the Investment sub-index went down by 0.46%, while the Mutual Fund sub-index remained unchanged at 21.43 points.
