Govt forms committee to study Humla-Bajura border dispute

KATHMANDU: The government has formed a committee to study the technical aspects of the ongoing border dispute between Bajura and Humla districts.

A meeting chaired by Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Pratibha Rawal on Sunday decided to form the committee led by Deputy Director General of the Department of Survey Sushil Dangol. The committee will have one representative each from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation. Likewise, representatives from the Offices of the Chief Ministers and Council of Ministers of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are also in the committee. A director of the Department of Survey will serve as the member secretary.

The committee has been tasked with submitting a report to the ministry after studying the technical aspects of the border dispute between the two districts. People from both districts are claiming the pastureland and the trail to Saipal Himal Base Camp at Ranikharka/Ranisain beyond Lampata as their own.

The meeting was attended by Land Management and Cooperative Secretary Madan Bhujel, Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s press and research expert Deepa Dahal; Home Ministry Joint Secretary Anand Kafle; Land Management Ministry Prakash Dahal, Department of Survey Director General Prakash Joshi, Land Management Ministry Under Secretary Bhim Budha; Department of Survey Director Dayanand Joshi, and Survey Officer Jyoti Dhakal.
