Market caps volatile session with 4.64-point loss

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index declined for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, reflecting continued selling pressure across the market.

The benchmark index capped a volatile trading session marked by a series of ups and downs, closing 4.64 points lower at 2,696.67 points. With this, the index fell below the psychological support level of 2,700 points for the first time since July 17.

Although the Nepse had recovered from two intraday lows and moved into the green territory briefly during the afternoon session, it failed to sustain the momentum and eventually closed 0.17% lower.

Unit prices of 166 scrips fell during the session, while 98 advanced and 13 remained unchanged. Total turnover fell to Rs 4.42 billion with 55,560 scrips traded through 10.42 million transactions.

Among individual stocks, Everest Colors Ltd posted the highest gain, hitting the 15% positive circuit. Next were Laxmi Unnati Koshi and Garima Samriddhi Yojana with gains of 9.1% and 5.98%, respectively. On the other hand, Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower Ltd posted the biggest loss of 6.07%.

Central Finance Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 271.41 million. Ridi Power Company Ltd and Solu Hydropower Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 212.1 million and Rs 190.91 million, respectively.

Four sub-indices posted gains, while the remaining nine ended the session in the red. The Trading sub-index posted the biggest gain of 0.74%. In contrast, the Others sub-index logged the biggest loss of 0.8%.
