Nepse slips 5.73 points, extends losses for third session

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing run for a third straight session, slipping 5.73 points to close trading at 2,738.72 points on Thursday.

Although the index dipped in early trading, it briefly recovered around midday and hit an intra-day high of 2,745.55 points. It then pared most of the gains and eventually setteled 0.2% lower.

Market breadth was negative, with unit prices of 161 stocks declining, 98 gaining, and 10 remaining unchanged. Total turnover fell slightly to Rs 4.91 billion compared to the previous session, with over 10.97 million units traded through 80,427 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Shreenagar Agro Industries Ltd SAIL led the gainers’ list with a notable rise of 12.57 percent. Next were Shikhar Power Development Ltd and Asian Hydropower Ltd with gains of 7.915 and 7.88%, respectively.

Reliance Spinning Mill Ltd led the turnover chart with Rs 267.56 million worth of shares traded. Next were Ankhu Khola Jalvidyut Company Ltd and National Hydropower Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 219.15 million and Rs 193 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, the Manufacturing & Processing and Banking sub-indices posted nominal gains of 0.84% and 0.02%, respectively, while other sub-indices ended in the red. The biggest gain came from the Others sub-index, which was down by 0.97%.
