PM Shah, cabinet members disclose property details

KATHMANDU: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has made public the property details of Prime Minister Balendra Shah and members of his cabinet.

Section 50 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002, requires the Prime Minister and ministers to submit their property details within 60 days of assuming office and again within 60 days after the end of each fiscal year.

According to the disclosures, Prime Minister Shah owns 1.2 bigha of land in Dhanusha and five aana in Kathmandu, along with nine bigha in Mahottari registered in the name of his father. Similarly, his spouse has declared 190 tola of gold and silver as ancestral property.

Shah has savings of Rs 14.6 million in bank accounts earned from different social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Spotify.

Similarly, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has land in nine different locations, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Dhulikhel, Bandipur, Gorkha, Chitwan, and Tanahun. He has declared 45 tolas of gold and about Rs 19 million invested across various companies. His portfolio also includes promoter shares in Shangri-La Development Bank and Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower, along with other shares worth around Rs 55 million. He also owns an SUV valued at Rs 9.4 million.

Law Minister Sobita Gautam has declared around 15 tolas of gold, vehicles worth Rs 12.37 million, bank deposits, company shares, and ancestral land. She has deposits in several financial institutions and also holds stakes in Global Himal Treks and Sopan Multi-purpose Company.

Home Minister Sudan Gurung has disclosed extensive landholdings in Dhankuta, Chitwan, and Gorkha, including 221 ropani in Tsum Nubri of Gorkha under his grandfather’s name. His investments include shares in several companies worth over Rs 27.4 million. He owns gold amounting to 89 tola.

Education Minister Shasmit Pokharel has declared total assets worth Rs 241.6 million, including houses, land, gold, silver, bank deposits, and share investments. His holdings include properties in Kathmandu and Morang, as well as family-owned land in multiple locations. He has 25 tolas of gold and 100 tolas of silver, and investments in shares worth Rs 17.7 million.

Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Sunil Lamsal has disclosed landholdings in Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, and Syangja, along with Rs 9 million in cash, and gold and silver assets.
