Curfew imposed in Siraha

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Siraha, has imposed an indefinite curfew in the Golbazar area.

According to the local administration, the curfew came into effect at 2 pm on Thursday and will remain in force until further notice. It said the measure was necessary due to the risk of a breakdown in law and order arising from protests and possible unrest.

The curfew covers the stretch along the East-West Highway from Kasaha Khola in Ward-3 of Golbazar Municipality in the east to Choharwa Chowk in Golbazar in the west. It also extends from Sainik Chowk in Ward-6 to the area surrounding the Rastriya Prajatantra Multiple Campus in Ward-4.

The local administration has urged people to comply with the curfew order and called for cooperation from all stakeholders to maintain peace, security and public order in the district.

It also warned that anyone found violating the curfew would face legal action under existing laws.

The curfew comes in the wake of Sunday’s deadly violence in neighboring Sunsari district. Om Prakash Mehta of Dewangunj-4 died in the incident. At least 22 people, including security personnel, were injured in the incident.

The situation in Dewangunj has remained calm since Wednesday.
