Indefinite curfew imposed in Janakpurdham, surrounding areas

JANAKPURDHAM: The District Administration Office, Dhanusha, has imposed an indefinite curfew in Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan City and other areas from Tuesday afternoon, citing heightened security concerns following recent tensions in neighboring Sunsari.

The curfew came into effect at 3:30 pm on Thursday and will remain in force until further notice.

Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luitel said the curfew was imposed under Section 6 (A) of the Local Administration Act, 1971, following a decision by the District Security Committee.

Under the order, all movement, public gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, meetings and sit-ins are prohibited within the designated areas during the curfew.

The curfew covers areas all areas of Janakpurdham sub-metropolis, the stretch from Laxmaniya Haat Bazaar Chowk in Laxmaniya-7 westward via Sinurjoda Chowk to Laxmipur Bagewa, the area from MQ Steel on Belauni Road to the petrol pump located 500 metres to the east, the section from the Hulaki Highway to the National Primary School, the Nagarain Municipality area up to Nagarain Chowk, and the Sinurjoda–Sohani–Manimandap–Nepal Nursery–ISKCON Janakpur–Dudhmati Bridge–Bela–Kadari Mosque corridor.

The administration said the curfew was necessary to maintain peace, security and public order.
