KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has urged officials appointed to various government bodies and institutions by the previous government to step down.
Addressing the first meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Lamichhane called on those appointed by the former administration to step down. “I request officials in public service bodies and institutions to make way voluntarily,” Lamichhane said.
He also said that no one in Nepal should have to bow down based on caste. “Caste-based discrimination was an organized injustice. This government is, for the first time, apologizing publicly from this House,” Lamichhane said.
Lamichhane further said that efforts to transform Singha Durbar, the main administrative center of the government, had already begun. “This mandate is not just to run Singha Durbar, but to change it. We have already started doing so,” he said.
Lamichhane added that the government does not need a 100-day grace period to begin delivering results. “We do not need a honeymoon period. We have already started working,” he said.
The RSP president also said his party does not believe in acts of revenge and oppression driven by numerical strength. “Earlier, laws used to be amended to protect allies and target opponents. Ordinances were also introduced for the same purpose,” Lamichhane said. “Such wrong practices will be corrected at the earliest. That chapter of arrogance and retaliation against the opposition will not be repeated. Discriminatory treatment based on belief will not happen again.”
