KATHMANDU: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has said that all necessary preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives elections have been completed.
Speaking at an interaction on the “Silence Period and Media,” in Kathmandu on Sunday, Bhandari stated that all required arrangements, including voting materials and manpower, are in place.
He said that 18,903,699 voters will be able to exercise their right to vote at 23,112 polling centers on March 5. Bhandari added that the voting process has been made technology-friendly to ensure that voters do not have to wait long in queues.
Bhandari also said it is the responsibility of all to make the election successful by fully complying with the code of conduct. Stating that the silence period begins from Monday midnight, he urged the media to strictly adhere to its provisions.
“During the silence period, news for or against any candidate must not be published. Media outlets should focus on voter education, the election process, and related topics during the period,” he added.
Bhandari also said the Election Commission (EC) was taking the misuse of social media seriously during the election and has initiated action against those spreading false content.
