KATHMANDU: Gold prices in the domestic market hit a new record of Rs 282,000 per tola (11.664 grams) on Monday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, gold gained Rs 4,200 per tola overnight compared to Sunday when the yellow metal was traded at Rs 277,800 per tola.

Monday’s price broke the previous high of Rs 278,000 per tola set on Wednesday.

Silver prices also climbed to a new high on Monday. Silver, which was traded at Rs 5,625 per tola a day earlier, increased by Rs 185 to reach Rs 5,810 per tola on Monday. The previous highest price of silver—Rs 5,655 per tola—was recorded last Wednesday.

The surge in domestic prices follows a sharp rise in the international market. Gold climbed to a record high of $4,689.39 per ounce on Monday. According to Reuters, bullion prices rose as investors sought safe-haven assets amid escalating global tensions, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose additional tariffs on European countries over control of Greenland.

As Nepal meets its entire gold demand through imports, fluctuations in international prices are directly reflected in the domestic market.
