Three National Assembly members resign to contest HoR elections

KATHMANDU: Three National Assembly members, who are nearing completion of their six-year term, have submitted their resignations to contest the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Bamdev Gautam, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and Bhagwati Neupane have submitted their resignations.

Gautam, who was nominated to the National Assembly by then President Bidya Devi Bhandari, is preparing to contest the elections from the Bardiya-1 constituency of the House of Representatives from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP). Gautam was defeated in the 2017 polls in the same seat. He was elected from the Bardiya-1 and Pyuthan-1 seats in 2013.

Similarly, Shrestha, who was defeated in the Gorkha-2 seat in the 2017 elections, is preparing to contest from the Sarlahi-3 seat from the NCP.

Likewise, Neupane plans to contest the elections in the Tanahun-1 seat from the CPN-UML. Before she won the National Assembly elections in 2019, Neupane contested for the mayor of Bhanu Municipality in Tanahun but was defeated.

The Election Commission is holding a vote to fill 18 vacant seats of the upper house on January 25.
