KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has urged all sides to ensure that House of Representatives elections are held within six months, stating that consensus has provided a way out of the political crisis after no alternative remained to form a Council of Ministers through Parliament.
Addressing a special ceremony at the Office of the President on the occasion of Constitution Day, 2025, Paudel called on all political parties, administrative and state institutions, intellectuals and Nepali people to set aside disagreements and work in coordination and cooperation to hold the elections successfully without prejudice.
“This constitution has given the Nepali people sovereignty and freedom. It has ensured equal rights for people of all castes, religions and communities, and created opportunities for progress through harmony and coordination,” Paudel said, calling on all people to protect these historic achievements.
He expressed hope that political parties, the government, state institutions and Nepali people would work together to make the constitution more vibrant, just and future-oriented, thereby fulfilling the dreams Nepalis had envisioned through past movements for change. He also sought continued goodwill and cooperation from Nepal’s international friends during this challenging time.
President Paudel said the nation had once again entered a new path of transformation with renewed dreams and aspirations. “The new mandate will further institutionalize democracy and chart the country’s future course. The interim government will rebuild and hand over power to elected representatives after conducting elections within the next six months. This is the primary responsibility of all Nepalis today,” he added.
Acknowledging the unimaginable human and material losses during the two days of protest, Paudel said, “As a parent, I can feel the grief of those mothers and fathers who lost their children. As the guardian of the nation, I sense the profound loss of those young people who were the pillars of our future. On this Constitution Day, I wish to honor the awareness and goodwill of those youths who took to the streets on September 8, demanding a better future for the nation.”
Paudel added that maintaining good governance, ending corruption and anomalies, creating jobs, ensuring environmental sustainability, and upholding social justice must remain priorities of the new government.
