ITAHARI: Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City in Sunsari held its municipal executive meeting on open grounds on Tuesday after the municipal executive office was torched during last week’s Gen-Z protest.
Mayor Hemkarna Paudel, Deputy Mayor Sangita Chaudhary, ward chairpersons and the Chief Administrative Officer, along with other members, attended the meeting sitting on the ground within the office premises.
The meeting decided to resume its services by making temporary arrangements from Sunday. The executive expressed condolences for the two people who lost their lives during the protests in Itahari and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Likewise, the meeting decided to prepare a damage assessment report.
Service delivery by the submetropolis has been affected as computers, furniture, motor vehicles and important documents were destroyed in the fire.
Mayor Paudel said they have decided to resume service delivery through temporary arrangements as it is not possible to rebuild damaged infrastructure immediately.
The meeting also decided to take legal action against those involved in arson and vandalism.
Five buildings of the submetropolis, including the mayor’s office, were reduced to ashes during arson and vandalism on September 8 and 9. The protesters also targeted the private residence of Mayor Paudel and Ward 17 Chair Prabhat Acharya.
