All-party meeting urges restraint, asks govt to ensure people’s safety

KATHMANDU: An all-party meeting convened at the call of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has expressed serious concern over the sensitive developments in Sunsari and issued a seven-point joint statement in favor of social harmony, peace and national unity.

The meeting paid tribute to the individual who lost his life in recent incidents and extended deep condolences to the bereaved family. It also wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Participants of the meeting urged people to exercise restraint to preserve unity, tolerance and social harmony.

The statement appealed to all to refrain from provocative actions that could incite social division, emphasizing that solutions should be sought through peaceful dialogue and consensus.

It also decided to direct party structures at the provincial, district and local levels to organize all-party and multi-stakeholder meetings.

It also called for cooperation with religious leaders, civil society and local administrations to foster an environment of peace and trust at the grassroots level.

Furthermore, the statement urged people and media outlets to act responsibly and remain vigilant against rumors, misinformation, and hate speech that may spread through social media.

Through the joint statement, the parties drew the government’s attention to the need to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property, conduct an impartial investigation into the incidents, bring those responsible to justice in accordance with the law, and provide appropriate relief and compensation to victims.

It also added that all political parties remain united in safeguarding national unity, social harmony and peace, and expressed their commitment to cooperating with the government and society to resolve the issue.

The joint statement was signed by RSP President Rabi Lamichhane, Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP) General Secretary Aren Rai, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) Nepal Chairperson Mahantha Thakur, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Lingden, Janamat Party Chairperson CK Raut and JSP-Nepal leader Prakash Adhikari.
