KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has blamed the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML for delaying the passage of the School Education Bill.
Speaking at a discussion on the education sector organized by his party’s student wing, the ANNFSU (Revolutionary), in Kathmandu on Thursday, Dahal said the Bill was registered during his tenure as Prime Minister. “The Bill was registered when I was the Prime Minister based on agreements reached with teacher representatives,” he said. “But the Bill has not progressed because the UML, which is currently leading the government, and its Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, have opposed it.”
He also accused Prime Minister Oli of disregarding demands placed by school teachers. “We were going door to door campaigning in support of teachers and students, while he (Oli) was lashing out at teachers, questioning why they should be given any benefits?” he said.
Dahal also accused Oli of opposing the public education system and leaning towards privatization. “He is good at deceit and manipulation, but shows no intent to reform education. They are not on the side of public education; they support privatization,” Dahal added.
