KATHMANDU: Lawmakers of opposition parties have demanded that the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting be conducted in accordance with established laws and procedures.
After the completion of the urgent and zero-hour proceedings in the meeting of the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar, who was presiding over the session, allowed Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada to speak.
Lawmaker Khatiwada spoke about various issues, including the attack on a legal professional within the court premises.
Following Khatiwada’s remarks, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli questioned under which rule a ruling party lawmaker was allowed to speak after the urgent and zero-hour proceedings had concluded. In response, Deputy Speaker Rana clarified that since Khatiwada had initially missed his chance to speak during the urgent hour, he was later given the opportunity to speak.
Lawmakers from opposition parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre), questioned the basis on which ruling party lawmakers were repeatedly given the floor. In response, Deputy Speaker Rana informed the House that the Federal Parliament Secretariat had already been instructed to study the matter.
Hit Raj Pandey, chief whip of the main opposition Maoist Centre, said that the meeting must be conducted as per the law and procedures.
Following continuous protests from the opposition, Speaker Devraj Ghimire adjourned the meeting by 15 minutes.
