Govt preparing to introduce Agriculture Act: Minister Adhikari

KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ram Nath Adhikari, has said that the government was preparing to introduce a comprehensive Agriculture Act.

Inaugurating the 1st National Dairy Expo, 2025, in Chitwan on Friday, Minister Adhikari said the new Act will uphold the interests of farmers. “The ministry is preparing to present the Act to the Cabinet for approval and then to Parliament within a few days,” he added.

Commenting on the delay in releasing payments to dairy farmers, Adhikari said the problem arose due to a lack of integrity among those responsible for paying farmers. I am ashamed that farmers have not received their payments for milk,” he said. It is unacceptable that dairy producers are not paying farmers despite making a healthy profit on milk procured from them.”

The 1st National Dairy Expo, organized jointly by the Chitwan District Milk Producers Cooperative Association and the Chitwan Industry Association, will run for three days. It will feature 70 stalls showcasing milk and dairy products.

The expo is estimated to draw around 50,000 visitors.
