KATHMANDU: The Judicial Council has recommended four high court judges for appointment as Supreme Court Justices.
According to the Judicial Council Secretariat, Dr Ratna Bahadur Bagchand, Chief Judge of the Pokhara High Court; Chandra Bahadur Saru, Judge of the Patan High Court; Janak Pandey, Judge of the Hetauda Bench of the Patan High Court; and Gokarna Dangi, Judge of the Birgunj Temporary Bench of the Janakpur High Court have been recommended for appointment as Supreme Court Justices.
The nominees must undergo parliamentary hearings as per Article 292 of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, before they are appointed by the President.
Additionally, the council decided to send High Court Judge Basanta Raj Paudel from the Jumla Bench of the Surkhet High Court on deputation to the Birgunj Temporary Bench of the Janakpur High Court.
The council also decided to form a high-level committee to study approved staffing quotas in high courts and district courts, review necessary human resources, and submit recommendations to the council.
The committee has been given three months to complete its work.
Similarly, the council has appointed High Court Judge Gita Prasad Timsina as the chairperson of the appellate committee formed to hear appeals against decisions made by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).
High Court Judge Raju Kumar Khatiwada has been appointed as the chairperson of the appellate committee formed to hear appeals against decisions made by the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority.
Furthermore, Kathmandu District Judge Tej Bahadur Khadka has been appointed as the chairperson of the Consumer Court, Kathmandu
