KATHMANDU: The Rahughat Hydropower Project in Myagdi, which was damaged by the September 27 floods in the Kaligandaki River, has resumed generation.
Although the project utilizes water from the Rahuganga River, floodwaters from the Kaligandaki River entered the powerhouse through the tail race and damaged key structures and equipment. The flood also damaged the tailrace gate used to discharge water from the powerhouse into the Kaligandaki River. As a result, the project, which had only recently been completed and had begun test generation, was forced to shut down.
According to Raghuganga Hydropower Ltd, one of the project’s two units, with a generation capacity of 20 MW, resumed operation on Thursday.
Ganesh KC, managing director of Raghuganga Hydropower Limited, said one unit of the project has resumed operation after workers removed water accumulated inside the powerhouse, and repaired damaged structures and equipment.
The project’s damsite is on the Raghuganga River in Dagnam-4 and Jhin-5, while the powerhouse is at Tilkenichaur in Raghuganga-3, alongside the Beni-Jomsom Road.
The electricity generated by the project is connected to the national grid through the 220-kV Kaligandaki Corridor transmission line.
