Lamichhane’s appeal: Pokhara High Court seeks detailed report from district court

POKHARA: The Pokhara High Court has ordered Kaski District Court to submit detailed report of the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case against former home minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane.

A bench of High Court Judge Milan Kumar Rai on Tuesday directed the district court to submit a detailed report in the case involving the government as the plaintiff and Lamichhane as one of the defendants, which includes charges of organized crime, fraud, and money laundering.

Lamichhane filed a petition at the Pokhara High Court on Monday, seeking the high court order to revoke the district court’s decision to release him on a bail of Rs 6.5 million. He claimed that the district court’s decision was biased and requested that he be released on general date while the case proceeds. Lamichhane’s legal team has also argued that the district court released him on bail without properly examining the evidence presented against him.

High Court Information Officer and Deputy Registrar Neel Paneru informed that Justice Rai’s bench has ordered the district court to provide a detailed report of the case.

On January 9, District Judge Nitij Rai ordered Lamichhane’s release on a bail of Rs 6.5 million. Following the order, Lamichhane was released the same day after submitting the bank guarantee, ending his 84-day detention.

At that time, Lamichhane and six other defendants were asked to post varying amounts of bail.

Lamichhane has been released on bails of Rs 6 million and Rs 10 million by district courts in Kathmandu and Rupandehi, respectively, on similar cooperative fraud cases.
