KATHMANDU: A technical team left from Todke of Myagdi to explore a new trekking trail in the Dhaulagiri region that links Myagdi and Mustang districts.

Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) Gandaki Chapter. The trial has been named Todke-Dhaulagiri Cultural Panorama Trail as the major attractions of the trail is Mt Dhaulagiri (8167m), the 7th highest mountain in the world, and the culture, tradition and lifestyle of the Chhantyal Magar indigenous group.

The Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment of Gandaki Province, Nepal Tourism Board, and Raghuganga Rural Municipality have collaborated with TAAN Gandaki Chapter to explore this new trekking trail.

The 20-member technical team comprises trekking operators, trail experts, journalists, and government staff, according to TAAN Gandaki Chapter.

The trail begins from Todke, a small hill station on the borders of three local units in Myagdi – Beni Municipality, Raghuganga Rural Municipality, and Mangala Rural Municipality. It progresses through Malika Duri, Thadakhani, Kuine, Chaurkhani, Ghyasikharka, Sugurthala and Kachhua Odar to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. It then climbs to Kali Baraha and traverses a ridge to reach Lete of Mustang district.

“We are exploring a new trekking trail to develop it into a tourism product in Gandaki Province. It will help extend the length of stay for tourists. The Thadakhani and Kuine settlements of the indigenous Chantyal and Magar communities on the slopes of Dhaulagiri are key attractions of the trail,” Dharma Panthi, president of TAAN Gandaki Chapter, told RSS.

The major highlights of the trail include breathtaking views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Dhaulagiri Base Camp, the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of Chhantal and Magar people, forests, rural lifestyle, wildlife, lakes, waterfalls, and religious sites.

According to TAAN Gandaki Chapter, the trail is ideal for camping tourism. It meets the Dhaulagiri Sanctuary and Dhaulagiri Icefall Trek at Ghyasikharka. The entire trek can be completed in seven days.
