KATHMANDU: As many as 13 Nepalis are missing in a landslide near Gauri Kunda on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, India, on Thursday night.
Jana Maya Rokaya, vice chairperson of Patarashi Rural Municipality of Jumla, told Himal Press that the 12 of the missing are from wards 2 and 3 of the rural municipality. “News reports are claiming that 25 Nepalis have gone missing. But we have received information of only 12 so far. Seven of the missing are from the same family,” she added.
Uttarakhand-based news portal portal HillVani has claimed that a total of 19 people, including 13 Nepalis, are missing. “We have received reports of three locals of Uttarakhand, 13 Nepalis and, three from other Indian states missing in the landslide,” the portal quoted Nandan Singh Rajbar, Crisis Management Officer of Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand.
Rescue workers have pulled four bodies from the debris. The identity of the deceased has not been ascertained yet.
