POKHARA: The number of trekkers visiting the popular trails in the Annapurna Conservation Area recorded a significant growth in the fiscal year 2022/23 and neared the pre-COVID levels.

According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), a total of 172,108 trekkers entered the Annapurna Conservation Area in 2022/23, up from 75,824 in 2021/22.

Trekker footfall in the Annapurna Conservation Area reached an all-time high in 2018/19 when the conservation area welcomed 183,357 trekkers. The outbreak of COVID-19 threw the tourism industry out of gears throughout the world and the Annapurna Conservation Area was no exception to it. Trekker numbers fell to 104,165 in 2019/20 and an all-time low of 4,916 in 2020/21.

ACAP collected Rs 299.43 million (including VAT) from permit fees during the review year. ACAP collects Rs 3,000 per trekker as an entry fee.

Annapurna region is home to some of the best walking trails in the world including the world-famous Annapurna Circuit Trail, Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Mardi Himal Trek and Ghandruk-Poon Hill Trek etc.
